Let's get to know AV1's People & Culture Manager, Alyce

What is your go-to way to switch off after a busy week?

My family and I live in Yuin Country in Ulladulla, so we are always either in the bush discovering magical spots or down at the water. It’s a great place to raise my two small children on Country but also fill up our own cups as parents.

What is a skill or hobby you would love to learn?I started to get into paddle boarding at the end of summer and really enjoyed it - years of dance and learning to balance really paid off! So I am keen to get back into that in the spring.

Where would we find you on a day off?
At the beach, it doesn't matter the weather - I am there. Whether it’s getting under some waves or simply doing breathing exercises watching the ocean from the shore. It’s a magical place for downtime.

What does AV1 being a certified B Corp™ for 10 years mean to you?

I’ve been at AV1 for the entire journey of our B Corp certification, so it’s something that feels truly special to me - and especially meaningful in my role.

What makes our B Corp status so special is that, when we first went through the process, we were already doing so many of the things the certification required. It wasn’t about changing who we were to meet a set of criteria; it was about putting a stamp on what was already authentically AV1.

It also means my personal passions and values align so closely with my role at AV1, which is pretty special. I get to work somewhere that genuinely cares about people, community and doing business better - and I get to help keep that at the heart of what we do.

What does a great workplace culture look like to you?

For me, it’s pretty simple - every day our crew puts on their AV1 shirt, I want them to feel a genuine sense of pride, belonging and worth. I want them to know they’re part of something bigger, that their contribution matters, and that we’ve always got their back.

Because great culture isn’t just about having fun at work (although that’s definitely part of it!). It’s about creating a place where people feel valued, supported and proud to say, “Yep, this is my team.” That’s what great culture looks like to me.

What is your favourite AV1 tradition or team moment?

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with a BBQ at the warehouse. It’s something we’ve been doing for many years, and I love getting everyone together for a big cook-up!

But what I love even more is watching friendships and genuine bonds develop within the crew. Seeing people who met through AV1 go on to become lifelong friends, take big trips together, attend each other’s weddings and become a real part of each other’s lives is pretty special.

I love knowing that, in some small way, I helped bring those people together through creating a workplace culture where people genuinely enjoy being around each other. Honestly, it’s probably the thing I’m most proud of at AV1 - bringing people together who never knew they were destined to become great friends.

What is something memorable that you took away from our 2026 Strategic Planning Forum (SPF)?

My favourite parts of SPF and any AV1 internal events are the in-between moments.

The AHA moments and the reactions to content being presented to them. Having Be Challenged on board this year was a game changer. For Nigel and me to be actual attendees for the day was incredible as well.

And Karaoke. Always. Don’t mess with AV1ders and their chance to get behind a microphone!

What do you think makes the people at AV1 special?

They genuinely care about their craft and what they do! No matter the role, everyone is so proud they are part of the wider picture of delivering exceptional events. In interviews, I look for that special spark, and it’s easy to spot within the first few minutes regardless of their experience.

Which AV1 value resonates most strongly with you, and why?

Authenticity - it’s something that, as a young teen, I promised myself to always stick to who I am, no matter what others are telling you. And I feel this is how AV1 has always been. Don’t worry about what others are doing - just do what you feel is right and bloom.

And it always works.

What are you most excited about for the future of AV1’s team and culture?

It just keeps getting better!

There are so many exciting projects ahead that will continue to demonstrate AV1’s commitment to people and purpose, and I can’t wait to bring them to life.

Each one is another piece of the bigger picture - creating a workplace where our people can genuinely feel proud of the company they work for and the impact we’re making beyond our day-to-day work.

From Climate Action, to our Reconciliation Action Plan, to a new B Corp recertification - there’s plenty to get stuck into.

Let’s get to work!
