Overview

For the tenth year running, we were tickled pink to support the MCA’s annual Bella Dinner which raises integral funds to support the Museum’s Access & Creative Learning Programs.

The Programs provide an enriching engagement with contemporary art and the MCA for children and adults with access needs each year.

Let’s take a look at some of the elements that went into producing the 200 pax event.

Production elements

Both Harbourside and Quayside Rooms were beautifully transformed for the occasion, with pre-dinner drinks and a string quartet in Quayside to begin the evening, followed by a sit down dinner and speeches in Harbourside.

Lighting design

The wide walls in each room were transformed into stunning backdrops using simple but effective gobo technology. The lighting was designed to create a feature pattern to carry through the event’s theme and branding and provide an engaging environment for guests.

The walls and crisp white stage were then enhanced with LED strip lighting to complement the event’s look and feel.

To add ambience and consistency, uplighting was also used on the terrace which featured a Bella branded bar and treated guests to a picturesque view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House.

Projection

The presentation content was projected directly onto the wall, producing a clear, high definition image. Wall projection rather than using screens means the overall look flows better, as you’re not limited by the screen size so can get creative with content design.

Sound

With a number of speeches as well as a string quartet for entertainment, it was imperative to make sure the sound was perfect at all times. Of course, that’s a given for us.

About the cause

Initiated in 1993 by Cynthia Jackson AM and her late husband Dr Ted Jackson AM, in memory of their late daughter Belinda, the MCA’s Bella Program now engages over 3,000 children and adults with disabilities each year.

Further to this, the MCA breaks down barriers for those facing disadvantage and welcomes children, young people and families from low socio economic backgrounds to participate in free learning programs and creative activities facilitated by the MCA’s team of Artist Educators.

Funds raised at the dinner provide vital funds for children and adults with access need to participate in tailored programs at MCA’s National Centre for Creative Learning.
