When people talk about memorable events, they often talk about the moments they experienced. What they don't always see is the technical thinking required to make those moments possible.
As part of Premier Financial Alliance's European incentive journey, AV1 supported a series of destination-inspired events across Monaco, Marseille and Lisbon. While each experience was completely different, they shared one thing in common: ambitious creative ideas that required careful technical planning and execution.
Here are three of the technical highlights that helped bring the program to life.
1. Revealing a Formula 1 Car in Monte Carlo
There are few places more synonymous with motorsport than Monte Carlo.
Hosted at the iconic Salle des Étoiles, the event embraced the glamour and excitement of Formula 1, with guests entering through a racing-themed experience featuring memorabilia, simulators and race-inspired styling.
The hero moment came during the evening's opening sequence.
Working with local suppliers and production partners, the AV1 team coordinated a reveal sequence that saw an LED screen presentation build anticipation before a full-sized Formula 1 car emerged onto the dance floor.
The challenge wasn't simply placing a car in a room.
The reveal needed to feel theatrical and integrated into the overall experience. Video content, lighting, staging and timing all had to work together to create a seamless transition from screen-based storytelling to a physical reveal.
The result was a moment that immediately became the focal point of the room and provided guests with one of the most photographed experiences of the trip.
2. Bringing Moulin Rouge to Marseille
The Palais de la Bourse in Marseille provided the backdrop for one of the program's most immersive themed events.
Inspired by the world-famous Moulin Rouge, the creative vision called for guests to be transported from the moment they arrived.
The challenge was creating recognisable Moulin Rouge iconography within a heritage venue while maintaining the elegance of the space.
A custom five-metre entry arch incorporating a windmill welcomed guests into the experience. Beyond the entrance, the technical production expanded throughout the venue, incorporating LED displays, theatrical lighting, cabaret performances and custom content design.
One of the most significant components was the creation of bespoke visual content for the LED screens. Rather than relying on generic imagery, the content was designed specifically around the Moulin Rouge aesthetic, incorporating rich textures, theatrical curtains, atmospheric motion graphics and references to the famous Parisian cabaret.
The content worked in tandem with the physical scenery and entertainment program, helping transform the venue into an immersive environment rather than simply a themed dinner.
Combined with laser effects, CO₂ cannons and multiple live performances, the result was a production that felt authentically connected to its destination while delivering a high-energy guest experience.
3. Creating a big top inside a heritage venue
The final gala dinner at Convento do Beato in Lisbon presented perhaps the most interesting technical challenge of the entire journey.
The client wanted guests to feel as though they were stepping inside a grand circus tent.
There was just one problem.
The venue offered no practical overhead rigging infrastructure capable of supporting the concept.
Instead of compromising the creative vision, the team designed an alternative solution.
A custom central structure was engineered and built in the middle of the room. This structure served multiple purposes simultaneously.
It acted as the primary rigging point for production lighting, created the central anchor point required for the circus canopy effect, and formed the foundation of the room's central bar.
By combining multiple functions into a single engineered element, the team was able to overcome the venue's limitations while preserving the visual impact of the design.
The canopy stretched from the structure across the room, creating the feeling of a traditional big-top tent while allowing lighting, entertainment and technical infrastructure to be integrated into the design.
What guests experienced as a dramatic circus environment was actually the result of careful engineering, creative problem-solving and a willingness to rethink how the space could function.
Making the impossible feel effortless
For guests, these moments lasted only a few minutes.
A car appears from nowhere.
A room transforms into Moulin Rouge.
A heritage venue becomes a circus tent.
Behind each moment sat months of planning, collaboration and technical execution.
That's often the reality of event production. The best technical achievements are rarely the most obvious ones. They're the solutions that disappear into the experience, allowing guests to focus entirely on the moment in front of them.
